Becoming the Unlikely Influencer

I love blogging and sharing my stories with those who care to read them. Whether it is a story from my wild days of adventure or traveling, to making a mockery of those who try to scam women out of hard earned money through lies and deceit, to just random anecdotes from my life, I am a writer and want to share my words with you. Last week, I was talking to a friend about how I needed to make some money and was looking for freelance editing jobs. During this conversation, I shared that I had a negative balance in one account, while the other account was being kept afloat by my mum and how I felt guilty about taking from her when it’s my own fault for being in such a situation. He shared an idea that since I do have blogs and Instagram, I should combine both and attempt to monetize it some. For the first time in a few months, I was excited about the idea, though I had no idea how on Earth I would do such a thing (the monetizing thing)...I still don’t.

Hence, the birth of my new blog venture: The Unlikely Influencer. Where did I get this name? Great question. I live in a city full of influencers, or wannabe influencers. Actually, social media is filled with these “influencers” no matter where in the world you are located. They’re polished, put together, beautiful, ripped and tone and tight, never a hair out of place, and appear to have their shit together. They use a product, we have to use it. They go somewhere, we’re jealous! We follow their workout plans. We eat what they eat. And if you know me, you’ll know I do not fit that description at all. I am a mess. Sometimes a hot mess, other times far from it. So, it is highly unlikely that I will ever be an “influencer”.

Enter this new blog! I’m not doing this to boost my already shattered ego (I mean seriously, have you seen the women in Dubai?? I am so far from their reaches...good on them for keeping that up! I don’t have the energy lol). I’m not doing this to gain followers (though I admit, I do get excited and flattered when I get another one). I’m doing this because I love writing and sharing experiences, thoughts, and real life. I am doing this for those girls like me--those of us who aren’t always dressed to the nines, who do self sabotage, who sits at home in her unflattering grandpa sweater watching reruns of Top Chef, who sometimes does crave the lifestyle but can’t always reach it, who is a financial disaster and can’t save a penny, and for those who don’t fit nicely into a box.

How this will work: I will add a new post weekly (at least). Hold me accountable! I will sometimes pull from my other blogs (which I will no longer be adding to for the moment), but most of the time the content will be fresh! Leave comments, messages, feedback. But most importantly, please come back for more!

ABOUT ME

IMG_2474.jpg

What can I share about me? I'm a writer,  teacher,  daughter, spender, sister, aunt, friend, rebel (at times), expat, independent (at times), self-absorbed (at times)...the list could go on. I am an American, growing up in Florida, but moved overseas in 2015. I've lived in China and the United Arab Emirates. I consider myself a global citizen.

I love traveling, enjoying good food and different experiences. You can sometimes find me under an umbrella sipping on way too much Coke Zero next to a pool, or you can find me curled up in a super ugly sweater at home. I'm an over-thinker and can definitely be way too sensitive.
